Research question: What is the most influential factor that explains whether a state cancels or suspends trade sanctions?
Argument: Domestic interest groups, specifically monolithic actors with direct access to their state, strongly influence a state’s decision to cancel or suspend trade sanctions.
Variations on the Independent Variable: Domestic interest have the strongest influence on trade sanctions in the following circumstances:
1. If there is a single interest group vying for a particular position on trade sanctions, they will more likely succeed then if they are competing amongst multiple interests.
2. If there are multiple interest groups lobbying for opposing policies, the most influential will win.
